Bunions Suck!

I have a large bunion on my right foot.  It is ugly. The bunion itself doesn't hurt, but I have a feeling that it is causing some aches and pains that I am having.  A few weeks ago, I was in a great deal of arch pain after my long run.  After consulting "Doctor Google", I had decided that I had transitioned into my zero drop shoes too quickly.

I took a week off and started mixing back in my "traditional" running shoes with more support.  The shorter runs felt fine, but on my 12 mile long run (wearing my Brooks Glycerins) it started up again.  This time it was coupled with my toes being squished! So... I consulted "Doctor Google" again and found this:

Adductor and Abductor Hallucis

The adductor hallucis is a muscle that runs horizontally across the top of the foot, forming a V-shape with its center at the big toe. The abductor hallucis runs lengthwise on the medial inside of the foot along the arch. Pain in either of these two areas can feel like extens…

OMG... what did I just do!!?!

It's official, I have signed up for the 2017 Houston Marathon.

I'm very excited! As mentioned in my 2016 running goals post, training for this marathon was one of the goals I had for this year.  It brings me one step closer.

In other news, I have taken a week of from training for my half marathon.  I'm having pretty severe inner-ankle/arch pain and from everything I have read, that is something you don't want to mess with.  I am rolling the arch with a golf ball, foam rolling my calves and working on some foot strength exercises.  I think the pain was brought on from trying to run too much too soon in my new Altra shoes (zero drop, minimal arch support).  I'm going to start up again tomorrow... wish me luck!

Loving these flip-flops!

I purchased the OOFOS OOriginal flip flops when I started amping up my mileage.  I had read several reviews of how after a long run, these flip-flops felt really good.  A few weeks later I was in my local running store and decided to try them on, I couldn't believe it... they felt like walking on clouds. They were out of my size at the store, so as soon as I got home I ordered up a pair.

These are like heaven.  As soon as I get home from a run, I can't wait to slip these on.  Don't get me wrong, my running shoes are comfortable, but after pounding the pavement in them for 5+ miles my feet are needing a little pampering.

These do exactly what they say they do on the OOFOS website:

Reduces stress on sore feet, knees and lower back
Cradles your arches
Biomechanically designed footbed allows natural motion
Soft, conforming toe post eliminates toe chafing

These are the most comfortable flip flops I have ever put on... at first I thought the price tag was awfully high, I know think eve…

Welcome 2016

I love New Year! I enjoy reflecting on the outgoing year as I dream of what I want to accomplish for the incoming year.  Most people I know make New Year Resolutions and they seem to be focus on a negative aspect of yourself.  I like to create New Years Aspirations and have them focus on making myself a better person.

Among my Aspirations this year are the following:
- Practice gratitude in my daily life
- Engage in the creative arts at least once per month
- Say yes to me

My fitness Aspirations are:
- Complete 4 half marathons
- Run 1000 miles this year
- Sign up and start training for the 2017 Houston Marathon

Turns out I sweat pink.  I have recently been accepted to be a Sweat Pink Ambassador (see that shiny new badge to the left)! I am very excited about becoming a part of this community.
The Sweat Pink Mission is:

We believe that kicking ass is best done in pretty shoes. We’ve learned that real women sweat, and sweat hard. We know that assertiveness, strength, and ambition are the ultimate …
