Jail Break Run Half Marathon Race Recap

I did it! I finished the Jail Break Run Half Marathon... and had a really good time doing it!

My goals were to:

Finish under 2:30
Take it easy at the start
Have fun

I accomplished all!

Now on to the recap....

I was very excited for this race.  I hadn't ran a half marathon in nearly 14 years and I was ready to prove to myself that I could do it again.  For a February race, the weather was unseasonably warm - low 60s at race start and climbing into the low 70s at finish time.  I got my race outfit together on Tuesday night.

Wednesday I had my last "real" run before the race.  On Thursday, I was bouncing off the walls, ready to get my race on! Friday, I skipped the "shake out run", had an early dinner and tried to make it to bed early.  Saturday morning came early... my alarm went off at 3:10.  I was able to get in a pre-race breakfast of toast with almond butter and a banana. Since my half marathon is coming up this Saturday ... in 2 more sleeps! I thought I would post a picture of me at my first half marathon - the Hospital Hill Run.  As the name suggests, it was a hilly race... 5 major hills.  My least favorite was the Broadway Hill which seemed to last to infinity! I can't believe this was nearly 14 years ago, in 2002.

I'm ready!

4 Days Left!!!

I'm ready to go! I'm ready to see the fruits of my labor!  I'm ready to prove to myself that I am strong and I can do this!  I'm ready to conquer the Fred Hartman bridge!

I have 2 more runs, today and tomorrow... 3 miles each and my shake-out run. I feel good... I feel prepared... I feel ready!

New Shoes

I LOVE shoes.  Pure and simple, there is nothing better than a new pair of shoes.

Yesterday I got a new pair of shoes delivered. I couldn't wait to get home and open the box and put them on! They felt so good, I decided to take them out for a spin! They felt great.

I had not heard of Altra before last fall when I read a blog post from Running with the Girls.  I immediately started researching them and bought my first pair of Intuitions.

When I started running in the Intuitions, they felt so good.  I run in the evening, so after wearing restrictive dress shoes all day... when I putt my feet in them and ran it was amazing.  My feet actually felt better after a run than they did before. Weird, huh?

There is a slight transition period with Altra when you go from a more traditional running shoe.  Altra makes a zero drop shoe, which means from the heel to the toe is flat.  Most running shoes are higher …

Super Bowl Sunday!

Yesterday America celebrated a great holiday - The Super Bowl!  It doesn't matter if you are a football fan... there is plenty of fun for everyone. Between the commercials, the game and the halftime show... what more could you want?  FOOD... Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest food consumption day in the United States, surpassed by Thanksgiving.

My Super Bowl Sunday was spent mostly cooking.  Well, after my 8 mile LSD run in the early afternoon... I learned that I'm a little bit more speedy when I don't run with my furry running partners.

I made enough food for an army yesterday... thanks to some great recipes on some blogs.

Where did January go??

It seems like yesterday we were ringing in the new year and today I'm writing February 1 on everything.

One of my goals for the year was to run 1,000 miles... I'm right on track.  Even with taking it easy this month.

I have been trying to baby my foot due to the pain that I have been feeling this month.  I got the bunion bootie last Friday and tested it out on a 5 mile run that evening.  I only got one for my right foot, where the bunion is worse and I felt no pain in the arch area when I ran on Friday night.  I definitely felt some pain in my left foot though.  I took Saturday off and went for a 10 mile run on Sunday.  I wore the bunion bootie on my right foot and taped my left foot with KT tape.  I did have some pain, but nothing like I was having before. I think the issue just might be the bunions.  I will continue to do the foot strengthening exercises, stretching and rolling and hopefully it will continue to improve.
