Weekly Workouts - Last Week Today - August 21

fontover_201671013354641-1.jpgHad a hit and miss week this week. I'm now in my 6th week training for the Houston Half.  This was supposed be a 5 day of running week... but that didn't happen.

This week I dodged thunderstorms!  Houston had a cool streak this day... 5 straight days with temps under 90!  The driving factor for those cool temps were storms, which started on Saturday evening and continued throughout the week.  Thankfully, nothing like Louisiana got last week... my heart goes out to those folks.

Sunday I was hoping to catch a run along the seawall in Galveston, but I woke up to a lovely thunderstorm... with lots of lightening, so I passed on that one.

Here's how my week shook out:

Sunday - Rest.

Monday - 10k - I got my Dog Days virtual run done.  I had 6 miles on the schedule from Sunday.

Tuesday - Planned 12x400; Actual - Rest (thanks to a thunderstorm at run time).

Wednesday - Planned 3 mile easy, Planned 12x400; Actual - Rest (thanks to a thunderstorm at run time).

Thursday - Planned 4x1mi; Actual 12x400. My splits were all over the place - 9:04/9:02/8:35/9:02/9:18/9:02/9:34/9:13/9:17/9:17/9:28/8:51, according to plan they were to be between 9:40-9:50 pace.

Friday - Planned Rest; Actual 3 mile easy effort with Anam.

Saturday - Planned 5 miles easy; Actual Rest. The hubs woke me up at 5:00 because the dogs stunk.  We figured out that Anam had been sprayed by a skunk. I spent the whole morning bathing her, 3 times. Finally got the stink out with Natures Miracle Skunk Odor Remover. Bathed Sorcha too, just in case...

Total miles = 14.5

  1. Your mileage and training was solid considering the stormy week you had. We had evening storms a lot this week too. I think your speed work splits were excellent. I haven't done as much speed training as I should have this cycle. I've never had a dog to be sprayed by a skunk but I'm glad to know what works. I'm sure Anam wasn't happy about his three baths. Thanks for linking, Vicki!

  3. Aww poor pup! I just saw my first Live skunk the other day in my neighbor's yard. I've only ever seen roadkill ones!

Glad you got some running in even though it was stormy. I wish we'd get a thunderstorm here. I just love them!

  4. You had a great week of mileage despite the rainy weather - congrats! Also I love that you did a virtual race, I'm a big fan of those as well. That's such an awesome, and cute, idea for a Virtual Race!

  5. Bad weather like that really puts a damper on things, huh? How did your pup manage to get sprayed by a skunk with all that rain. Poor guy - and poor you!

  6. I feel like we can't complain about the rain and storms when LA is dealing with all they have gotten! It is just awful isn't it. I know we can all agree we've had enough rain for awhile! Poor Anam, I saw his picture on IG about getting skunked!

  7. Oh no! Skunked dogs are the worst! And we had some pretty bad thunderstorms here too that interfered with a few runs!

  8. That's a great week of training--thunderstorms are always a gamble at run time. We also had a stormy week but we were lucky in our area that they didn't coincide with our runs. Sorry about the skunk! At least you were able to get it out!

  9. Oh, Anam was NOT pleased with the 3 baths at all! At least we know what works now to get the scent off.

  11. She was not pleased with her baths to get the scent off! I've only seen roadkill ones too, we didn't see this skunk, just got to smell the aftermath.

  12. Anam is the one it would have happened to... she likes to chase things... a lot.

  13. I do admit, I've been enjoying this last bout of rain because now we don't have to water the yard! It just seems to rain at the worst time... during rush hour, when you want to be outdoors, etc.

  15. It kind of sounds like the universe was getting you to take it easy with all of the crazy weather and the skunk spray. Yikes! Sounds like you managed to get lots of running in anyway though =)
