I've learned a few things...

wp-1473774907071.jpgToday I'm joining the lovely ladies for Tuesdays On The Run.  Where we talk about a different topic each week that is running related.

Today's topic is "Something New I Learned About Running This Year".

I find that I am a continuous learner... I learn by researching, asking others, reading blogs (a shout out to all the bloggers who have shared your experiences and made it easier for others... too many to name), and personal experiences.

These are a few of the things I have learned this year:

  1. Prehab... way easier than rehab!  Doing those annoying strengthening exercises, stretches and foam rolling really helps and makes a difference in the way that you feel on the run.

  2. Running in the heat and humidity is hard, but if you do it smart your body will get acclimated to the heat eventually.

  3. I can do hard things!  Sometimes I get too much into my head and start negative self talk when I have a hard workout.  Often times, I nail the workout ... I wonder what I could achieve without the negative self talk?

What have you learned about running?

Today I'm linking up with MCM Mama Runs, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and My no-guilt life for Tuesdays on the Run.

  1. I totally agree with each of these things! I am always learning from other bloggers as well.

This year I think was the first year I really started to be bothered by the humidity (it must be cus I'm getting older..lol). How do you acclimate to it?

  2. I can do hard things, too! Such a simple lesson yet SO applicable!! :)

Prehab... I seriously need to get on this. I've been doing lunges every day, though, so that counts for something!

  3. So many lessons from running! A big yes to pre-hab. I've yet to acclimate to heat as much as I'd like to. It still unravels me in races.

  4. I think just from running in it (taking it easy) that you build up a tolerance to it... or maybe it is just in my head :-)

  5. I got off the foam rolling for a couple of weeks and it is amazing the difference.... same with squats/lunges.

  6. I don't really run, but I reallyyyy need to start doing the whole warmup/cool-down thing! I've been meaning to foam roll too--it hurts so good! :P

Negative self talk can affect us so much! That's definitely something I'm working on too!

  7. Yes... I always want to put foam rolling on the back burner, but I feel so good afterwards.
