Hydration - My Plan

wp-1473774907071.jpgToday I'm joining the lovely ladies for Tuesdays On The Run.  Where we talk about a different topic each week that is running related. Today's topic is "Hydration"... tell us how you stay hydrated.

Proper hydration is critical to staying healthy and making sure every system in your body is functioning at it's highest level.  My strategy for staying hydrated is divided up into 3 categories - everyday, during the run, and post run.

Hydration - Everyday

I try to stay hydrated all day.  I start my day off with a glass of warm lemon water.  Throughout the day, my go-to is water with a few slices of lime in my 22oz life factory bottle (I try to get in 3). I supplement my water with a couple cups of green tea during the day and either some Nuun Vitamins or Nuun Energy for some variety.

Hydration - During The Run

During my runs, I hydrate exclusively with Nuun Active... flavor-wise, I mix it up.  Currently I'm drinking strawberry-lemonade, last week it was grape.  I use my Nathan Insulated Speed Draw Flask.  I just ordered a hydration vest for my longer runs this summer.

You may be wondering how I avoid getting a burst of Nuun in my face while running... I make it up the night before.

Hydration - Post Run

After a run, I will rehydrate by finishing whatever (if anything) is left in my bottle from my run.  Then I drink a glass of water.  I have been known to have a beer afterwards too (followed by some Nuun vitamins).

How do you hydrate?

Today I'm linking up with MCM Mama Runs, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and My no-guilt life for Tuesdays on the Run.

  1. I've not had any problems with Nuun bubbling up through the Natahan top. Go figure. Can't wait to hear what you think of your new hydration vest when you get it.

  2. I haven't tried Nuun, I pretty much stick to plain water. Nathan makes such great products! I have a couple different type of ways to carry my water and I've been switching back and forth.

  3. My typical day sounds a lot like yours. Except I no longer use Nuun, just water + Saltstick fastchews (depending on the length of the run).

  6. I've been wanting to try out those saltstick chews, especially as it warms up here!

  7. I love nuun, but I'm rationing my old ones. I tend to drink fizzy water when I'm not running, but I used to drink watered down nuun. I need to find a new solution...

  9. I haven't tried nuun. In generaly I'm really good with hydration... but not while running :/ I just don't like running with a fuel belt. My rule is 6 miles or less, no water. I always drink lots before and after. I really like coconut water after - do you ever hydrate with it?
