Runfessing In The New Year - January 2018

I'm just going to say it... how is it the end of January already?  It feels like we were just ringing in the new year yesterday.  I'm excited for the weekend and ready to head out of town to run some trails.  But first... I need to do some clear the air.  I'm Runfessing in the new year - January 2018.

I RUNFESS...

Sometimes I miss having family local that cheer at my races.  The hubs just doesn't get it, and I've come to accept it... don't get me wrong, he is supportive - just in his own way.  My biggest fans are glued to the tracking apps and cheering me on from afar.  I find that I look forward to stepping over those tracking mats just as much as looking for the people I know lining the course.

Runfessing In The New Year

At the recent Trail Racing Over Texas sign-up-a-thon I may have gone a little sign-up crazy.  I registered for 3 races that night!  I've got 4 trail races on the schedule this year! My race schedule is filling up nicely ... and I've even signed up for some volunteer shifts at some races.

Runfessing In The New Year

While I was signing up for races, I decided on my next big scary goal - a 50k.  I'm going to run the Brazos Bend 50!  You may recall last year I ran the 25k at Brazos Bend.  I'm thinking it's a good course to try out ultra running!

Runfessing In The New Year

Knowing that I was planning on signing up for multiple trail races this year, I thought it would be good to get more trail shoes.  Oh... and I threw in an extra pair of everyday sneakers.  I LOVE the everyday sneakers... I've even worn them to work a few times (oops, dress code violation).

Runfessing In The New Year

I recently had this greens dish that my mother makes... it was so good.  I decided to make it myself and looked at the ingredients in the can of greens... low and behold there was bacon fat and pork parts in it!  I've since veganized the recipe (coming soon to the blog).

That's it for me... what do you have to Runfess?

I'm linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup and with Marcia's Healthy Slice for Runfessions.

  1. Wow! Sounds like you had fun pulling the entry trigger on all those races. Hooray for a 50K!

  2. I'm really hoping to get to a 50K or M this year but I'm not sure it's going to happen.

I totally get what you mean about wishing you had someone at the finish line. My family doesn't really get it but they don't live near me, either. My husband tries to come but we have two little kids and it's not really a priority for anyone. I've gone to a lot of races with friends and we're all out on the course together which makes it kinda fun. Just knowing they're out there too helps.

  3. LOL, I did... there were some really good prizes up for grabs (that I didn't win), but had a great discount!

  6. I'd like to do more trail running but not 50k! Sounds fun, tho!

My family hasn't come to my races for years. I'm ok with it--less pressure to finish fast for me!

  8. While I’m not a trail runner at all, I do love Altra shoes, at least the ones I have. They have totally saved the day as far as longer-distance running is concerned!
Nice surprise (not) about the pork in your veggie dish!!! While I’m not 100% vegetarian I want to KNOW and choose for myself when I have meat products, thankyouverymuch!!

  9. My hubby doesn't get it really either. It usually hits me most in the last miles of an event where I feel like a friendly face or a snack handed to me would help LOL

  10. My husband never comes to the shorter, local races. He came to a couple in the beginning, but I can't really blame him. It is so nice to have someone there at the finish, though!

  11. The hubs cooked a vegetarian meal for me in celebration of my finish... I'm thinking that's pretty darn supportive :-)

  13. I LOVE Altras... I don't think I could run much more than 5 miles without them.

  14. Yes! Exactly, or someone to lean against as you try to hobble to the car :-)
