Workouts - Last Week Today - June 19

picsart_05-01-02.25.10.jpgThis week we wrapped up our Colorado vacation and I got a few runs in once we got back.

While we had a blast in Colorado, I was happy to be home... I missed my fur kids, and I missed my routine.

Here is how this week shook out:

Sunday - Went hiking and site seeing... found a short trail that led up to a waterfall.  It was beautiful.  We also took a very long drive over the Rocky Mountains and the scenery was just incredible. Total steps 9,141.

Total steps 3,928.

Tuesday - We took advantage of the late afternoon flight and headed to grab brunch. When I found how close we were to Voodoo Doughnuts, we had to walk over to there.  Once we got home, we were greeted by 2 very happy pups, the cats didn't seem to care. Total steps 7,921.

Wednesday - Back to the regular routine.  I was exhausted after work, but still wanted to do something.  Took both dogs for a walk. Total steps 10,358.

Thursday - Easy 3 miler after work (average pace 11:01)... felt great to lace up my running shoes and get out there. Total steps 10,535.

Friday - Rest - Total steps 3,919

Saturday - Easy 4 miler (average pace 11:12). Total steps 14,480.

Total miles = 7

  1. Sounds like a good week. I've never tried Voodoo Donuts but I know they are quite popular!

  2. Looks gorgeous! We're going to CO too! We haven't been in years. Any tips or recommendations?

  3. It sounds like a lovely trip. I've been to Colorado twice: once in winter to snow ski and once in summer for a half marathon. It is beautiful there. It's difficult to imagine there can be snow in the Rockies as hot as it is here. Getting back to a regular routine it so difficult for me. It looks like you did a great job of that. Thanks for linking with us Vicki.

  4. Wow, several bloggers I read were in Colorado last week. The scenery certainly is fabulous. I have a hard time being away from my fur kid too. I've been away for 6 days and thankfully going home tonight!

  5. Where in Colorado are you going? We have family in the Granby/Grand Lake area. We drove up to the Rocky Mountain National Park one day, that was a lot of fun. There are a lot of places to hike and you can see some wildlife from the road as well.

  6. Looks gorgeous! I would love to visit Colorado. And, of course, Voodoo Doughnuts. We have absolutely zero local donut shops around where I live and I crave them.

  7. Sounds like a great week! I've only been to Colorado once for a quick weekend, but it was beautiful!

  8. Colorado looks awesome. I would love to go there some day, I bet it was gorgeous hiking through there!

  9. I've been seeing pictures of Voodoo donuts on Instagram and they make me want to plan a trip to Colorado, ha ha.

  10. I so want to go to Colorado! Your pictures are beautiful I can't imagine what all you saw too! I miss my fur kids too when I'm gone :) Voodoo donuts? Oh man I would love this!
Thanks for linking up with us!

  11. It was amazing that when we left Granby (lower down on the mountain) it was in the 70s and when we got to the top (not too many miles away) it was in the 50s.

  12. I'm thankful that we have a great pet sitter!

  13. Colorado is awesome... I like it more in the summer time.

  14. Yes, the scenery is gorgeous!

  15. Colorado is quite beautiful... I really like it in the summertime.

  16. They were good doughnuts!

  17. Colorado is so gorgeous... I especially like it in the summertime!

2017 Chicago Marathon Recap

Last weekend I ran my second marathon... the Chicago Marathon. This is my 2017 Chicago Marathon Recap!

The week prior, the hubs decided he didn't want to go to Chicago... citing some pretty lame excuses.  I wasn't too worried about that as I am not afraid to travel on my own.

I flew into Chicago on Friday morning.  The plane from Houston seemed to be full of folks running in the marathon.  I sat by a young couple who were also running (his 1st marathon, her 7th).  After landing up in Chicago, I took the Orange Line into the city and checked into my hotel, then headed back out for some lunch and then to take in the Expo.
The Expo

The Expo was CRAZY! I retrieved my bib, shirt and wandered around for a bit.  I tried shopping in the Nike area, but after I was shoved a couple of times, I lost all interest.  With all the craziness, I decided I needed to find the Goose Island beer bus for a little sample.

I checked out several booths and then headed to the Runners World stage for the cour…

Brazos Bend 50k Recap

On April 7th, I ran my very first 50k at Brazos Bend 50.  The event was a Trail Racing Over Texas race located at Brazos Bend State Park outside of Needville, TX.  This is my Brazos Bend 50k recap.
I had gone into Houston after work to pick up my race packet ahead of time... along with my bib and race shirt, they also had bonus swag, for this race it was Altra Gaiters.  Race day-eve brought me a little visitor.... yup, Aunt Flo decided to come for a stay. This definitely put a little twist in my plans.  I took off work a little early so that I could get dinner at a reasonable hour, my clothes laid out, and to bed early.  My race-day eve fueling was my lucky veggie burger and sweet potato fries at Bella Green.

After some thought I decided to wear my hydration vest to carry necessary supplies instead of my handheld.  Once I got home, I laid out my clothes, got my supplies ready and headed to bed.  My wake-up call was 3am!

It was tough figuring out what to wear.  The forecast cal…

2018 Houston Marathon Recap

Last weekend I ran my third marathon... the Houston Marathon. This is my 2018 Houston Marathon Recap!

I ran the Houston Marathon last year, it was my very first marathon.  It was such a fun time, I signed up again as soon as early bird entry opened up.
ABB 5k
I chose to run the ABB 5k on the day before the marathon.  I figured since I had to be in Houston to pick up my packet, I might as well use it for my shakeout run.  The temps were mighty chilly that morning.  I bundled up and headed in early to pick up my packet.  After I dropped my bag (and jacket) off at the bag drop, I was very happy to see the convention center was open to wait in.

15 minutes prior to race start, I headed out to use the port-a-cans and line up.  I chose to line up with the 11 minute mile group in an attempt to keep my pace super easy.  They sang the Star Spangled Banner and we were off right on time!

I had to do a bit of bobbing and weaving as there were several walkers who lined up ahead of me.  Within a half mil…
