August Running Recap & September Goals

How in the heck did it already become September!

I made some running goals for the year in January and it's time to check in to see how I'm progressing on them.

Goal:  Run 1,000 miles in 2016. I'm progressing on this very well.  I got in 100 miles in August ... my highest monthly mileage to date!  My mileage is steadily increasing, and will continue through the year.   I am on path to meet this goal.

Goal:  Run 4 Half Marathons in 2016.  I've ran 3 so far - 1. Jail Break Run, 2. Run Like A Diva, 3. Running With The Cows.  I am currently training for the Houston Half at the end of October.  In addition, I am planning on running a 5th Half Marathon in December, the Santa Hustle in Galveston, so I will exceed this goal.

Goal: Register for and start training for the 2017 Houston Marathon.  I'm registered.  I have my training plan and training will commence in a few weeks.

September Goals

I'm doing something a bit different this month and making some monthly goals as there are a few things that I think I can improve on.

These are the goals that I am focusing on for this month:

  1. Eat Better - In August I fell into the trap of eating like crap, and my energy levels and the overall way that I felt tanked.  My goal for September is to limit junk food and candy and eat more healthy, unprocessed meals.

  2. Strengthening exercises - I haven't done any other type of exercises since earlier this year when I was doing HIIT 2x/week.  My goal for September is to do HIIT or body weight exercises 2x/week.

  3. Foam rolling - I've dropped off from foam rolling and my legs are not very happy.  My goal for September is to foam roll after each run.

  4. Yoga - I haven't practiced yoga in several months.  My goal for September is to get in a yoga workout at least 1x/week.

  5. Listen to my body - With the upped mileage and higher intensity workouts, I've been more tired and feeling a little sore at times.  My goal for September is to listen to my body and be ok with what it is telling me, at times I may need to force a rest day or lower down on intensity.

I'm feeling good about the progress I've made with my yearly goals. I think that making monthly goals will keep me accountable for the things I tell myself that I need to do more of and keep me healthy.

I'm linking up with Cowgirl Runs and Carmy for the Monthly Goals link-up and Eat Pray Run DC, Mar on the Run and You Signed Up For What for the Friday Five.

  1. Wow, way to go with your running goals! It looks like you're definitely going to hit 1000 miles for 2016!

    Thanks for linking up!

  2. That's great that you are already more than halfway to that 1K!!!!

  3. All good goals! I'm a little worried about fall weather eating because all the pumpkin goodness is coming back in full force :) At least it will be amazing running weather so I can run it all off!

Congrats on your 100 mile month! You've got great goals for September, I need to work on more clean eating and yoga as well!

  5. Thanks... I was starting to get a little worried back in June :-)

  6. I'm looking forward to getting some fall weather here, usually doesn't hit us until the end of Sept/early Oct.

  7. Wow! You are making such great progress on your goals. 5 half marathons? That's awesome! I'm getting 2 in this year and am happy with that. I find if I run more, I tend to get injured. I'm curious how many miles I have run this year... I've been tracking it on an app, but haven't checked. I should do that.
"In August I fell into the trap of eating like crap, and my energy levels and the overall way that I felt tanked."
Ditto!! It's so frustrating as I know it makes me feel crappy... but it gets worse and worse. I'm working on cleaning up my diet this month too, without being restrictive.
Foam rolling after each run is a fantastic idea - I should incorporate that one. I rarely foam roll, but I know my body really appreciates it.

  8. I really find racing helps keep me motivated. Although, as I have started ramping up my mileage and not been taking care of "pre-hab", I have been nursing an injured foot :-(
It is really amazing how the stuff you eat really affects how you feel! I really have a love/hate relationship with my foam roller :-)
