5 Ways I'm Treating Myself This Weekend

I'm linking up for the last weekly Friday Five link-up.  While I have enjoyed this weekly link-up and will miss it, I do want to wish Courtney, Mar, and Cynthia the best!

Something I often do for myself is take a "Vicki day"... this is a day devoted only to me, and the practice of self-care. Today was 'Treat Yo Self' day ... Parks and Rec fans will totally understand... in honor of the holiday, I'm having a "Vicki weekend". These are the 5 ways I plan to treat myself:

  1. Spend a little time at the doctor's office... getting that well woman exam should be a priority for every woman once a year.

  2. Get a massage ... I can't believe it, but it has been over 2 years since I went in for a massage... I'm way overdue!

  3. Pamper my feet... I've been pounding the pavement pretty hard, and my feet need some TLC.  Pedicure, here I come!

  4. Facial... way too long since my last one (are we sensing a theme here), looking forward one this weekend!

  5. Logging some miles!

What do you do to treat yourself?  Do you take a "self day"?

I'm linking up with Eat Pray Run DC, Mar on the Run and You Signed Up For What for the Friday Five link up.

friday 5

  1. Sounds like you are going to have a lovely weekend pampering yourself. I have been wanting to get a massage since I completed Chicago on Sunday but was way to sore earlier this week. Now that I am feeling better I may go this weekend. I was just afraid it was going to hurt too much and not feel relaxing if I went too soon.

  2. I have Thursdays off but they're never a "Wendy day"--I usually run around getting things done. But I have started at least making the afternoons mine. I lay on the couch for a couple of hours. I read, nap, get caught up on blog things...

  3. I really wanted a massage before this race -- need it! -- but just not happening. Way too busy exploring. But 2 YEARS????? Girlfriend, that's way too long!

Despite not working, I rarely get a day to myself. Taking care of the house, the husband, lately the parents, the furkids . . .

  4. My birthday is Sunday so I'll be doing some "me" things over the weekend! Thanks for linking up with this for this final week!

  5. I love "treat yo self" from P&R! I'd definitely get a massage too. Maybe spend some time with my pups and then head into NYC and go to a really tasty veg-friendly restaurant!

  6. I have been trying to focus more on self care as I know it goes a long way.
"Get a massage … I can’t believe it, but it has been over 2 years since I went in for a massage… I’m way overdue!"
I actually just realized myself I wasn't getting enough of these so I splurged and got myself a membership at a massage place for a massage once a month. I know this will force me into self care as if it's deducting from my bank acct each month, I will be sure to go!
Pedicure is something I rarely get though - I should treat myself to one of these =) Oooh and a facial! I haven't had one in like a year.
    Great pampering girl!

  7. Nothing better than afternoon naps!

  8. I couldn't believe it had been that long... I need to get back on a regular schedule!

  9. Happy belated birthday!

  10. That sounds like a great "treat yo self" day :-)

  11. It was a great pampering weekend! I definitely need to get back into the self-care routine... I had been getting massages and pedis regularly.

2017 Chicago Marathon Recap

Last weekend I ran my second marathon... the Chicago Marathon. This is my 2017 Chicago Marathon Recap!

The week prior, the hubs decided he didn't want to go to Chicago... citing some pretty lame excuses.  I wasn't too worried about that as I am not afraid to travel on my own.

I flew into Chicago on Friday morning.  The plane from Houston seemed to be full of folks running in the marathon.  I sat by a young couple who were also running (his 1st marathon, her 7th).  After landing up in Chicago, I took the Orange Line into the city and checked into my hotel, then headed back out for some lunch and then to take in the Expo.
The Expo

The Expo was CRAZY! I retrieved my bib, shirt and wandered around for a bit.  I tried shopping in the Nike area, but after I was shoved a couple of times, I lost all interest.  With all the craziness, I decided I needed to find the Goose Island beer bus for a little sample.

I checked out several booths and then headed to the Runners World stage for the cour…

Brazos Bend 50k Recap

On April 7th, I ran my very first 50k at Brazos Bend 50.  The event was a Trail Racing Over Texas race located at Brazos Bend State Park outside of Needville, TX.  This is my Brazos Bend 50k recap.
I had gone into Houston after work to pick up my race packet ahead of time... along with my bib and race shirt, they also had bonus swag, for this race it was Altra Gaiters.  Race day-eve brought me a little visitor.... yup, Aunt Flo decided to come for a stay. This definitely put a little twist in my plans.  I took off work a little early so that I could get dinner at a reasonable hour, my clothes laid out, and to bed early.  My race-day eve fueling was my lucky veggie burger and sweet potato fries at Bella Green.

After some thought I decided to wear my hydration vest to carry necessary supplies instead of my handheld.  Once I got home, I laid out my clothes, got my supplies ready and headed to bed.  My wake-up call was 3am!

It was tough figuring out what to wear.  The forecast cal…

2018 Houston Marathon Recap

Last weekend I ran my third marathon... the Houston Marathon. This is my 2018 Houston Marathon Recap!

I ran the Houston Marathon last year, it was my very first marathon.  It was such a fun time, I signed up again as soon as early bird entry opened up.
ABB 5k
I chose to run the ABB 5k on the day before the marathon.  I figured since I had to be in Houston to pick up my packet, I might as well use it for my shakeout run.  The temps were mighty chilly that morning.  I bundled up and headed in early to pick up my packet.  After I dropped my bag (and jacket) off at the bag drop, I was very happy to see the convention center was open to wait in.

15 minutes prior to race start, I headed out to use the port-a-cans and line up.  I chose to line up with the 11 minute mile group in an attempt to keep my pace super easy.  They sang the Star Spangled Banner and we were off right on time!

I had to do a bit of bobbing and weaving as there were several walkers who lined up ahead of me.  Within a half mil…
